Heroin…The epidemic sweeping across our nation.  Almost every week we read and hear news stories about its tragic effects.  This past weekend in Chicago there were 75 overdoses from heroin use.  The hospitals are reporting that the surge is from fentanyl-laced heroin.  Fentanyl is a powerful opiate pain medication that is used in hospitals after major, painful surgeries.  Mount Saini Hospital in the heart of the city said that some of these addicts were coming in with needles still stuck in their arms.

When an overdose occurs with opiates, an medication with the brand name Narcan is used to reverse the effects.   In many of the cases this weekend one dose of Narcan was not enough to bring the body back from the overdose.  In a few of the cases, doctors and nurses had to use up to three doses.  The DEA and Chicago police department are working in conjunction with each other to find out where this supply is coming from.

This was just one weekend, in one city in America.  This is going on everywhere across our country.  Clearbrook has been battling this heroin addiction epidemic since it started.  Call Clearbrook today…we can help you save your life!
