young people taking pillsBenzodiazepines are being prescribed by doctors at an alarming rate today.  They are becoming one the most highly abused drug recreationally.  Drugs that are included in this class are Xanax, Klonopin, and Valium.  Emergency rooms around the country are reporting that admissions from overdoses of benzos have doubled since 2005 and that many of these overdoses are caused by combining “cocktails” of different drugs.

When taken by themselves, or combined with other substances, the effects of abuse are the inability to control motor skills, blackouts, and seizures.  In treating the abuse of benzos at Clearbrook, we also have seen just how bad trying to detox from these drugs can be if not done by medical professionals.  Loss of sleep, extreme anxiety, seizures, and physical pain are all side effects of coming off this class of drugs.  Improper detox from these medications can even result in death!

Prescription drug abuse has been and will continue to be a problem in today’s society.  It is widely available now on our streets.  Our children as young as 10 years old are taking these drugs.  They are in medicine cabinets in many homes.  If you or someone you love if suffering from benzo abuse please call us.  There is a strict, medical way to treat this.  Clearbrook can help when no one else can.
