Established specifically for adolescents, this 45-bed inpatient
rehabilitation center is the beginning of what must be a continued
effort to maintain a lifestyle and lifetime of sobriety. The 12 steps
of Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous are an integral part of the
patient community’s daily activities and efforts.
Inpatient
services are available to those between 13 and 18 years of age who are
still in high school, and who have sufficient skills to participate in
therapy. Clearbrook ensures patients complete high school courses at
the facility during their treatment stay. Adolescent treatment includes
both a short-term program and an extended care program.
Extended Care Program
Incorporated
into its nationally recognized treatment program is an Extended Care
Program for adolescents that has proven to be very successful in
helping chemically dependent youth develop a behavioral foundation that
will serve them in all life situations. Lasting 90 to 180 days, the
Extended Care Program utilizes a 13-acre island as the starting point
for rehabilitation.
Participants progress through a ranking
system and all four stages (pre-cadet, cadet, ranger and eagle) need to
be earned. The pre-cadet stage focuses on the traditional drug and
alcohol rehabilitation treatment. The next three stages focus heavily
on a behavioral change.
With a longer length of stay, we are
able to teach new living skills and develop healthy behavioral patterns
that increase the individual’s chance of a drug-free and productive
life. The outdoor activities and rank-earning system challenge
participants to trust one another, work together, and acknowledge each
other’s strengths, skills and life experiences.
Extended Care Goals
• Abstinence from mood-altering chemicals (sobriety)
• Use of the 12-step program
• Demonstrated change in personal behavior and self-image, consistent with healthy recovery-oriented behavior
• Adherence to a value system that promotes healthy functioning
• Initiate an improved, chemical-free lifestyle
Program Stages
With
the set up of stages, the Extended Care Program allows each patient to
recognize the progress he or she is making. Each stage has its own
programmatic objectives. A patient must remain in a stage for a minimum
of four weeks before being eligible to progress to the next stage.
Movement into another stage occurs only after assessment by the
patient’s primary counselor and the patient’s attainment of the
required amount of merits.
The stages include:
Pre-Cadet – must earn 20 merits
Cadet – must earn 15 merits
Ranger – must demonstrate excellence in all Core Functions
Eagle – an honorary stage for those demonstrating exceptional investment in recovery
Promotions
within stages are additionally based on review and approval from a
promotion board consisting of the Program Director, Senior Counselor,
Second Shift Supervisor and Primary Counselor. When the board agrees
the patient has satisfied all requirements, promotion to the next stage
is granted. Movement to the stage of Eagle requires approval of the
President, CEO and Vice President of Clinical Services.
